Subject: Amazing show.
Subject: Amazing show.
I am writing in reference to DamnRandall's post. I was at this incredible show. I was actually standing right next to those kids you spoke of. I was
...
in the front row, and was very upset with them as well. I actually arrived at the El Rey two hours early to get in line and get a good spot. One of the kids arrived 30 minutes later than I, found out that the line actually needed to start on the other side of the theater, and proceeded to take the first spot in line. Over the next hour and a half, 8 of his friends came and took the front spot in line. These kids were being dropped off by their mothers. I was extremely upset.
Regardless of the children in the front row, it was an amazing show. The two new songs were incredible. I actually stayed after the show and met the band. They are the nicest guys, and truly have a passion for what they do. They're so happy that people want to listen to their music. We're lucky to be blessed with their talent, I told them.

This isn't really a review, as this is more of a reply to the previous reviewer and a chance for me to point out some things.
Everyone knows that Explosions ... pretty much destroys.
I went to both of their SoCal shows at the Glass House in Pomona and this show at the El Rey in LA, which makes it three times now that I've seen them live. In those three shows, I have never seen them play an encore song, no matter how long people chant for one. I remember last year at the Troubadour, we must have chanted and clapped in unison for an encore for about 5 minutes until Munaf came out and told everyone that they were really tired and won't be playing an encore. Everyone applauded and left.
I think this was the case with the El Rey show, also. At the Glass House show, we all clapped and chanted for "one more song" and Munaf said they wouldn't be playing an encore.
The croud definitely didn't seem as receptive at the El Rey than they did at the Glass House. I was right up at the front, and there were kids (literally, kids) taking up all of the space right up front and they didn't seem into it at all. It seemed that they were the kinda kids that went to shows and had the belief that it's cool to look like you're not having fun. One kid just sucked on a candy sucker throughout the show. If it were up to me, I'd send them to the back for a nap so people like me can get up front and rock out with the band.

this is a great recording of a good performance... there was just sort of a weird vibe at the show. the band looked so tired. they played well, and passionately,
...
but the crowd didn't seem very receptive. after the closing remark, "thanks for your time.", the band just sort of walked backstage. no drawn out applause, (which was very deserved), not a single call for encore (which would have been fun). there was just a feeling of, "well, that was nice, now let's get out of here." from both the band and the crowd.
i hope that they're just road-weary. they are a fantastic band, and i hope they continue making music.
thanks for posting this recording!
